Suzy's and Zorro's Friday the 13th shoot ~ No. 1 (early December 1957; actual size approx. 9.8 x 7.9 in. (24.8 x 20.0 cm.)). This print and the next are composites in a proposal for publication in the L.A. Herald-Express, where George worked at the time. Although there were several Fridays the 13th in the late '50s, the actual date in question was fairly easy to pinpoint: based on Suzy's appearance, and correspondence with more reliably timed photos in the set (particularly this one), the date appears to be December 13, 1957—which is coincidentally Suzy's fourth birthday. Our parents have trained her to pose with Zorro, the family cat (who conveniently turns out to be black) for this shoot; note my mother's hand at the right corner of the upper two frames, as she gestures to Suzy. On the right edge of each frame is also an inscription in wax pencil by George, probably an instruction for cropping. Lightly retouched to remove random white scratching on the wooden walls.
